In 1985 the first Spanish Association of Patients with Tics and Tourette, the A.P.T.T was created in Barcelona, with state scope.
Two neurologists (the Dr. Eduard Tolosa - sensitized by its stay in the U.S.A. and the Dra. Àngels Bayés), when contacting with affecting and its mother, stated the necessity to promote the creation of an association centered in this disease, then hardly well-known, characterized by a complex mixture of neurological symptoms (motor and vocal tics) and upheavals of conduct.
From their foundation, the objectives of the APTT are:
- To be to the service of affected and its relatives so that they can obtain an integral support and improve its quality of life.
- To inform to professionals into the medicine and the society on the Syndrome of Gilles of the Tourette, in order to obtain a precise diagnoses and a suitable treatment.
- To stimulate and to support the investigation on the nature and new possible treatments of this syndrome.
- To obtain, with the fulfillment of all these objectives, one better social and professional integration of the affected people.
